CUMIS General Home & Auto insurance program ending in Alberta in 2026

CUMIS General Insurance Company will withdraw from the home and automobile insurance marketplace in Alberta as of January 1, 2026. This necessary decision is in direct response to ongoing challenges in Alberta’s auto insurance market, including the rising cost of auto claims.

We have notified the Alberta Superintendent of Insurance of our intention to withdraw.

This will not affect the coverage of current policyholders until the 2026 expiry date of their policy. For the remainder of 2025, we will continue to offer renewals, subject to the relevant policy's terms and conditions, our underwriting guidelines, and applicable laws. Starting on January 1, 2026, CUMIS General will no longer quote or renew home and auto insurance contracts in Alberta.

All policyholders will receive timely information with ample notice before policies expire. We’re working to help policyholders make informed decisions about securing new coverage.
